A new cafe is to open in Wallingford town center

WALLINGFORD — Having worked in the service industry for years, Amanda DeLuca decided now would be the perfect time to open her own cafe.

“I’ve done everything from bar service to brunch service,” DeLuca said. “I found myself recently divorced and decided it was time to pursue my dream of owning my own home. Because I have two kids, it really fits the mold for not having to work nights, everything. staying in the service sector.

DeLuca, 35, plans to open Café Luca Belle at 169 Center St. in about three weeks. The process has taken about 10 months so far.

“We really started the demonstration in April/May and it was difficult to find people to move the process forward,” DeLuca said.

DeLuca’s mother is his interior designer and helps him choose colors, furniture and decorations.

“We really want to create a comfortable environment where people want to sit and do their work or do their homework and, you know, stay awhile and drink coffee from a china cup and not just always on the go,” DeLuca said. said.

Kouign Bakery on North Colony Road will supply pastries from Café Luca Belle. DeLuca is also looking to see if she can work with Bagelicious in Cheshire. The coffee comes from Downeast Coffee Roasters, based in Warwick, Rhode Island. She will sell cold brew coffee and various espresso drinks.

“They focus on really good single-origin coffees that I’m happy to bring,” DeLuca said. “…I really want to have a great rotating list of newer coffees…Any type of espresso drink, really more upscale flavor lines. I want to take it slow. »

DeLuca will work with Wallingford Center Inc. to promote his new venture.

“We’re thrilled to have her,” said Liz Davis, executive director of Wallingford Center Inc. “We’re thrilled to have her coming and having a new face on the street, which is great.”

DeLuca named his shop, Café Luca Belle, after his two children, Luca and Isabelle. She said the location at the corner of Center and South Orchard Street is “perfect”.

“Center Street is really starting to look like an up-and-coming neighborhood,” DeLuca said. “…It’s just a really good place.”
