The Culture Cafe is closing its downtown location and opening sister restaurant Culture Soul on Detroit’s Westside.

While some might consider the era that we are “post-pandemic”, many businesses are still suffering.

Culture Cafe, an upscale restaurant at 1452 Brush St., within walking distance of Ford Field and Comerica Park, is the latest to feel the effects.

In early January, the popular restaurant announced on social media that it would be temporarily closed until further notice, but would soon start accepting takeout orders.

According The Detroit Newsthis “temporary closure” is permanent, as Le Culture Cafe has faced inflationary costs, staff shortages, and a dispute with its owner.

Despite the challenges, owner and chef Drew Matthews unveiled his new delivery location last weekend – dubbed Culture Soul.

Matthews said The Detroit News that Culture Soul, located at 24737 W. Eight Mile Rd., placed more than 2,000 orders in its first weekend.

“We opened Friday here and, with no promotions or anything, Friday, Saturday and Sunday we placed over 2,000 orders,” Matthews told the New. “We have a very, very, very large fan base and our customers…the support is real.”

Culture Soul serves many of the same menu items and is currently walk-in only with plans to expand to accept phone orders and online orders. Customers can view the full Culture Soul menu at
