To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Final Fantasy 7 RPG, Square Enix is opening a limited-time themed cafe based on the video game.
Square Enix is celebrating many anniversaries across its various titles in 2022. The Kingdom Hearts series has just celebrated its 20th anniversary, the Final Fantasy franchise as a whole celebrates its 35th year, and the original Final Fantasy 7 The PlayStation game also marks its 25th anniversary in 2022. Although Square Enix has yet to make an announcement regarding the sequel to FF7 remake, the company gave further updates regarding the 25th year milestone of the series. Recently, the company revealed that it was opening a themed cafe in Japan to celebrate the occasion.
Many fans are probably clinging to hope that major updates will soon be shared about FF7 remake. That hope is sparked by the game’s co-director Tetsuya Nomura, who recently announced that the major Final Fantasy 7 the announcements will be revealed in June 2022. Aside from this news, fans seem to have little else to do except Square Enix’s occasional social media posts regarding anniversary activities. This includes the FF7 anniversary virtual exhibition and now, the next thematic café.
On the Japanese Twitter account of Final Fantasy 7, the official dates for the 25th anniversary theme cafe have been announced. The cafe will be open from June 11 to July 22, 2022 and will be hosted by the company’s two existing cafes, Artnia in Shinjuku, and Square Enix Cafe in Akihabara. Reservations are required if fans want to visit the cafe and enjoy the themed menu. Those who order food will receive a random placemat while those who order drinks will receive a random coaster. These articles have favorites Final Fantasy 7 characters, scenes and illustrations from the series.
Since there will be two locations for the themed cafe, fans who visit both and participate in the stamp rally can receive a special coaster with a secret design. However, a region-locked Square Enix account is required to make online reservations. Fans will therefore have to create one or visit cafe locations to find out about available slots. Final Fantasy 7 25th Anniversary merchandise is also available for purchase at both cafes, so for those who can’t sit at the actual cafe, they can still purchase official merchandise.
Unfortunately, Square Enix hasn’t shared if any of the official cafe merchandise will be released in Japan. Hopefully the upcoming June reveals will shed light on both the Final Fantasy 7 Remake sequel as well as Final Fantasy 7 25th anniversary products.
