Joe & Dough in Murfreesboro Hosts Soft Opening for Handmade Coffee

EDITOR’S NOTE: Joe & Dough Cafe will be hosting a soft opening on Monday, April 18, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., with limited items served from the menu.

Northeast Murfreesboro is getting a new locally owned coffee and donut shop.

Joe & Dough Cafe is scheduled to open Tuesday, April 19 at 1220 E. Northfield Blvd.

“It’s my wife and I’s dream. We’ve always wanted to open a cafe,” said Raj Patel, who also owns the laundromat next to the new cafe.

The cafe is a new concept devised by Patel and his wife, Raji, combining freshly prepared, hand-made sandwiches, soups and sweets, including hot donuts, with locally roasted coffee.

Joe & Dough Cafe will open at 1220 E. Northfield Blvd. near the corner of North Tennessee Boulevard in Murfreesboro.

There will be easily accessible drive-thru, as well as indoor dining.

“I wanted to have a place in the neighborhood where you can get together,” said Raj Patel, whose restaurant is near the Middle Tennessee State University campus and on the edge of several north Murfreesboro subdivisions.

What is on the menu?

The “dough” part of the menu will include a range of donuts, doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, bagels, croissants and homemade cookies.

“My most famous item is our apple fritter,” Patel said. “My favorite is the Chocolate Blueberry Glazed Cake Donut.”

There will also be a selection of soups, sandwiches, paninis and salads, as well as breakfast items such as omelettes and waffles.

“I love to cook and can do anything with eggs,” said Patel, who has operated a donut shop for a decade and also owns a market and delicatessen in central Tennessee.

For the “Joe,” Patel enlists the expertise of local coffee roaster Jeremy Florida, owner of Brass Horn Coffee in Murfreesboro.

In addition to Brass Horn Coffee, Patel plans to serve homemade traditional Indian chai tea.

Joe & Dough will also offer catering options.

Cafe hours will be 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
