Leitrim cafe owners devastated after fire tore through premises in Longford


Carrick-Shannon man Fergal McGovern said his partner Rhona was devastated by the fire which engulfed their cafe, Esquires Coffee House, in Longford yesterday.

Dismay and shock followed the fire that broke out at the well-known N4 Axis Center business premises.

Two units from the Longford Fire Service fought the blaze which was brought under control and thankfully no injuries were reported.

Taking to Facebook, Fergal and Rhona wrote: ‘Like the community of Longford, we are so devastated by the fire that engulfed Esquires Cafe on Monday afternoon. We are proud of our staff’s quick response to the fire and fortunately no one was injured.

“The staff at Esquires Longford are heartbroken at the loss of their beloved store – a feeling we deeply share with them.

“We are very grateful to the emergency services who attended the scene and helped fight the flames. We cannot thank you enough.

“Finally, we would like to thank you for the offers of support we have received over the past few days; it means so much to all of us. The store will be closed for the time being and we will let you know here as soon as possible when we have a date. opening.

“We are now beginning the process of rebuilding Longford’s favorite cafe and hope to serve you in the near future.”
