Loseley Park Estate fire causes ‘extensive damage’ to farm shop and cafe


A farm shop and cafe on the Loseley Park estate near Guildford suffered extensive damage after a major fire on Monday evening (June 13). Farmm, which is housed in a converted barn, only opened in December 2020 but now faces an indefinite period of closure after the barn and an adjacent farmhouse were damaged by fire.

A spokesperson for the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service told SurreyLive they were first called about the blaze at around 5.10pm. The fire reportedly started in the barn before spreading to the house, causing damage to the roof, the first and the ground floor.

He added: “Seven fire engines were dispatched in the first hour, with the first arriving on the scene around 5:20 p.m. Other specialist teams and devices arrived throughout the accident. The fire was brought under control, however, the crews stayed overnight to continue cushioning.The crews left the scene around 9:45 a.m. the following morning.

The Loseley Park Estate has confirmed that no humans or animals were harmed or in immediate danger as the flames spread and that it is currently working with the relevant authorities on the next steps in its investigation.

‘We would like to thank Surrey Fire and Rescue for attending to the scene within minutes and for their work in the evening and into the early hours of the morning,’ said cafe owners Alexander and Sophia More-Molyneux. “We also want to thank everyone for their well wishes, support and kindness over the past 48 hours and hope to be able to welcome our guests back as soon as we can.”

The Farmm’s shop sells fresh fruit and seasonal vegetables, as well as meat, dairy products and fresh cut flowers. It also offers many Surrey-branded products, including Silent Pool gin, Norbury blue cheese, Tempus charcuterie and Hogs Back Brewery beers. Items available on the cafe menu include toast, sausage rolls, cheese platters and smoothies.
