Margin Coffee Roasters fills the specialty coffee gaps in Albany, Oregon, and this month celebrates the grand opening of its newest roasting cafe.

After finishing seasoning the new 10-kilo Mill City Roasters machine linked to Cropster a few weeks ago, Margin Coffee Head roaster David Hurley began roasting production batches for the company in a 3,000-square-foot building. square feet near I-5 which previously housed a carpet and flooring company.

The bar’s roastery and gleaming La Marzocco espresso machine are now two focal points for customers entering what is the company’s second cafe.

Margin Coffee Roasters owner Gabriel Anderson told Daily Coffee News that while the design of the new cafe represents an aesthetic departure from the coffee company’s original cafe – the latter featuring a vaulted ceiling and Period windows in a 120-year-old building – the focus on coffee quality extends to both cafes.

“I very intentionally set up the bar and roasting area to showcase the craftsmanship and science of coffee itself,” Anderson told DCN. “I wanted the material to be set up for the curious as well as for aficionados.”

Working within the confines of 1980s construction, including the building’s drop ceiling, Anderson set out to create a bright, modern atmosphere that exists in harmony with the industrial nature of the production roastery.

“The finished aesthetic is my own touch of industrial modernity with a little southwestern flair,” Anderson said. “Wooden slat walls, touches of green, matte finishes and a few cacti [are] a fun contrast to the jungle foliage in our original store. My hobby, woodworking, and the building skills of new Roastery Manager and longtime family friend, Emma Vassar, have brought it all to life over the past month and a half.

It is a great joy to be able to help students bridge this gap. Likewise, coffee has its own language and its own way of speaking which may seem inaccessible.
