Rhys Vandersyde in action

Rhys Vandersyde has been one of Australia’s leading motorsport photographers for many years and has been there to capture historic motor racing moments.

Founded in 2013 by Vandersyde, InSyde Media specializes in photography, videography and media services within the motorsport industry.

Vandersyde’s passion for photography began with the use of disposable cameras as a child, and has continued.

“I went overseas and was quite disappointed with some of the photos I took, so I went out and bought myself an expensive DSLR camera,” Vandersyde said.

“Once I had this, I just took it everywhere I went.

“When you go to do that and you also have a passion for motor racing, the two will eventually collide.”

Vandersyde keeps his company’s purpose very ‘loose’ as he presents himself with a wide range of media skills and lets motorsport drive the direction of his company.

He has worked with top publications such as Auto Action, Carsguide, Motor Magazine, as well as world famous motorsport brands such as Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes, etc.

Vandersyde considers his start in the industry “lucky” as he attended a Motor Magazine event at Sydney Motorsport Park, posting his photos on social media and debuting from there.

“I don’t take for granted how lucky I am to be able to do this stuff, just go to race tracks and photograph things,” Vandersyde said.

“I feel so lucky to be able to work with such incredible core manufacturers and riders.

“It gives you a bit of perspective, to be able to do this stuff and not do ‘real work’.”

Some of his biggest career highlights include working with top manufacturers, filming international events, like going to New Zealand with the Repco Supercars series.

“Working with big manufacturers and shows like that, and bringing those companies to me, creates some very surreal moments for me,” Vandersyde said.

“There’s no highlight that stands out, but there are a lot of little things where you say ‘woah that’s pretty special’.”

Vandersyde is looking to work on more international events, especially with the easing of COVID-19 related restrictions.

Its international bucket list includes Daytona, Le Mans, Spa-Francorchamps, as well as Formula 1 Grand Prix events.

He still really enjoys working with Supercars and Supercheap Auto TCR Australia, but he is looking to broaden his horizons and gain new experiences.

The end goal is to Networkcafe.com.au for members to do business with each other and for Speedcafe.com’s vast readership to consider the products and services of businesses that need to survive the current economic downturn.
