New Better Health Market and Cafe store opens in Dearborn

Better Health Market and Cafe has officially opened in its new location in Downtown West Dearborn.

The market is located in the former Merchant’s Fine Wine store at 22250 Michigan Ave., which closed in summer 2020.

It is the 14th location and one of the largest in the Michigan-based family chain Better Health Market.

“We are excited to open this new location in downtown Dearborn West, walkable, to provide even more Dearborn residents and employees in the city with a greater selection of foods and products. fresh prepared to help them live a healthier lifestyle,” Tedd Handelsman, Founder and President of Better Health Store said in a press release. “Our family legacy centers on building stores without judgment — to help Michigan become a healthier state. ”

The chain got its start as a small health food store offering vitamins and supplements more than 20 years ago.

This Michigan Avenue store replaces the chain’s smaller Better Health Store on Telegraph in Dearborn, which closed.

Covering 15,000 square feet, the market offers fresh produce, a full line of natural, organic, locally grown and non-GMO groceries.

More than 80% of the store’s products are organic at competitive prices, Handelsman said.

“We’re smaller and lighter and we’ve been able to keep prices competitive,” he said.

The new store is comfortable and spacious. Although they carry over 10,000 products, the shelves are not crowded and things are easy to find. Each driveway is named after major streets in Dearborn such as Michigan Avenue, Ford Road, Greenfield, and Rotunda.

Better Health Market & Cafe in Dearborn offers aisle after aisle of vitamins and supplements as well as a full line of groceries.

“They (the lane names) give it a local feel,” Handelsman said. “It’s funny.”

There’s aisle after aisle of vitamins and supplements, which Better Health Markets is known for, as well as a selection of organic health and beauty items.

The 10,000+ products are hugely diverse and run the gamut from dairy-free to plant-based and keto. There are several lines of low carb items, including pasta selections.

“It’s become a way of life for people who don’t want carbs or sugars,” Handelsman said. “For anything high in carbs, there is a keto alternative. Plant-based products are also very popular.”

The store offers a large amount of healthy snacks, international foods, dairy products and cheeses, meats and meat alternatives.

“We have everything you need for a healthy lifestyle,” Handelsman said.

Beer and wine offerings include Michigan wine and sulfite-free, vegan, biodynamic, gluten-free, and locally brewed craft beer.

The cafe menu has many fresh and prepared dishes to order to go or eat. There are Michigan grass-fed beef burgers or the plant-based Beyond Burger, sandwiches, wraps, and deli salads are among the items offered at the store’s cafe and bakery. There are also smoothies and fresh juices. You can order online or in store.

Inside the new Better Health Market & Cafe in Dearborn there is a salad bar with organic produce and a hot bar.

Some of the market’s specialty items include its Michigan Vegan Better Health Whopper, vegan, and keto cookies. The café also has a fresh salad bar with organic dishes and a hot food bar with soups and ready meals.

Inside there are cafe seats and there will be seats outside on the Michigan Avenue side. The store’s main entrance is in the Garrison parking lot.
