New Kirby Cafe is coming to Japan’s most underrated food town with exclusive menu items

Kirby and his appetite show Nagoya some love.

A deep culinary connection isn’t a prerequisite for a hit anime or video game series to get its own themed restaurant. It always seems more appropriate, however, when it comes to a franchise that actually features a lot of on-screen meals, and so the announcement that a new Kirby Café opens its doors is more appropriate.

The brand new coffee branch dedicated to the spherical star of nintendo series of video games will await the guests in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. The city’s food is criminally underrated, often overshadowed by the restaurant scenes of Osaka and Kyoto, but Kirby Cafe is ready to shine a light on some of Nagoya’s local favorites like miso katsua fried pork cutlet topped with miso sauce.

The Burger Waddle Dee Miso Katsupictured above, comes with a side of spaghetti with meat sauce, Star Block omelettes and a Maxim tomato that restores health. At 2,948 yen (US$22.15), the price may be a little shocking at first, but it delivered with the souvenir platewhich is not for sale per se.

The Kirby inhaling a fried shrimp dog seems to be an allusion to another Nagoya specialty, tenmusu or shrimp tempura rice balls. This also comes with Star Block omelets, as well as Stellar-style tater tots, for 1,628 yen (Kirby inhaler dishes not included).

And if, like Kirby, you always have room for dessert, the Kirby Peach♡Peach Parfait (yes, the heart is officially part of its name) will give you multiple layers of fruity flavors to finish your meal for 1,628 yen, with the glass is yours.

▼ The restaurant says it’s a parfait glass, but it looks like it would also work great as a beer glass.

The above three items are exclusive to Nagoya Kirby Cafe, but there is also a new Waddle Dee Town Afternoon Tea set (3,520 yen) which will be offered in the chain’s branches in Tokyo and Hakata, as well as in Nagoya.

▼ Although not yet featured in concept art, the Nagoya Kirby Cafe will also have a take-out window inspired by the Waddle Dee-liveries counter from Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Nagoya Kirby Cafe opens September 15, which is also when Waddle Dee Town Afternoon Tea will be added to the Tokyo and Haneda menus. The Nagoya branch will be a limited-time affair that until February 5so if you’re a fan, do like Kirby and don’t waste time even trying to suppress your appetite.
