Opening of a café-bakery with special events venue in Hershey

Two friends team up to bring a bakery cafe and private party venue to Derry Township.

Bentley’s Bakery and Savory Occasions Catering will open in early summer at 565 Park Ave. near Hersheypark and Tanger Outlets Hershey. Partners Amanda Bentley and Heather Anderson bring their home businesses together under one roof.

The cafe will serve breakfast and lunch, including charcuterie boards, homemade soups, salads and sandwiches, as well as custom cakes, breads, bagels and cupcakes. It will also serve One Good Woman Coffee in Camp Hill.

The venue will host special events such as micro-weddings, birthdays, showers and corporate meetings. The partners plan to open in June as the tourist season in Hershey kicks into high gear.

The two met through a mutual friend and, according to Bentley, became instant friends due to their shared interests. Bentley has been selling wedding and special occasion cakes for about 12 years. Anderson started Savory Occasions about four years ago and briefly operated the Savory Cafe in Palmyra.

“She and I are a lot alike in a lot of ways,” Bentley said. “We like perfection in a certain way when it comes to our products. We are both very passionate.

The friends had started working on events together when Anderson, who was looking for another location for a restaurant, approached Bentley about partnering on a location. They had both looked at the site on Park Avenue with a view of the Hersheypark roller coaster.

The place replaces an old residence and will allow the two women to expand their business. Bentley will continue to accept cake orders and will also sell premade cakes, breads, cupcakes and cookies, among other baked goods.

“Our rosemary bread is ridiculous. It’s so flavorful and flavorful,” she said.

The bread will be used for a three-cheese grilled cheese and as a charcuterie board offering. The cafe will serve three homemade soups, including tomato bisque, chicken and black bean gnocchi, and fire-roasted tomatoes with avocado and cilantro.

Anderson said the menu will be divided into “clean and dirty” sections to provide healthier and less healthy options. The clean side will feature salads made with organic greens and power bowls, while the dirty side will focus on items such as pulled pork and melty patties. They will also serve vegan and gluten-free options.

“It’s different stuff that you don’t find anywhere else, but it gives people a lot of options,” Anderson said. “So it’s not just your typical cafe menu.”

As for special occasions, the venue will host events during off-peak coffee hours. The bakery-café will operate for breakfast and lunch from Tuesday to Saturday.
