Operator Wanted for Cafe in Huntly Town Square, Community Owned, Project #30


As work on the redevelopment of No 30 progresses, the former Cruickshank’s, Huntly Development Trust (HDT), is looking for a partner, with restaurant experience, to run the cafe which is part of the project.

An operator is wanted for a café which is part of the redevelopment of No 30.

The historic building, which faces Huntly Square, was acquired by HDT in 2019 after securing funding through the Aberdeenshire City Center Fund.

The project is well advanced and will include a 60-seat cinema and entertainment complex, a music room, a co-working space, shops, wellness and fitness areas as well as a café bar/restaurant,

HDT is looking for a food service provider who can embrace the Trust’s commitment to reinvigorating the town square for the community and achieving net zero.

Carolyn Powell, HDT’s Town Center Development Manager, said: “We are looking for someone who is passionate about the opportunity to be part of a wave of development in Huntly Square, who is committed to employing local people, to source from local suppliers and has an environmentally sustainable approach to its business.

The cafe facilities at No. 30 will be prominently displayed, with access to the street, at the front of the building. The floor area totals 160m2, it will have an equipped kitchen and a service / bar with plenty of storage.

Ms Powell added: “It’s an exciting time for Huntly, with three major buildings in and around the square which have been purchased and are being refurbished ahead of new businesses opening within them, as well as the bookshop Orb’s Bookshop and Deveron Projects Square recently opened Deal building, the city center is in full transformation.

HDT invites expressions of interest and would like to hear from potential operators about their experience running a cafe bar, events or catering business, managing staff, their passion for food and how you see their company working in partnership with HDT.

Anyone interested in submitting an offer should contact Carolyn Powell. The closing date for expressions of interest, via a pre-qualification questionnaire, is Friday July 1st. The companies selected to submit a bid will be agreed by July 31 and the contract will be awarded to the successful candidate by November 28, 2022.
