Popular Scottish cafe goes 100% vegan

Glasgow restaurant and music venue Glad Cafe on Pollokshaws Road is ditching meat, dairy and eggs and going vegan – much to the delight of many of its fans.

A Scottish cafe and music venue has revamped its menu to make it 100% vegan from today, which has pleased many customers, with one saying he was “thrilled”.

The Glad Cafe, on Pollokshaws road in Glasgow, revealed the news in a recent Instagram post.

Sharing a brightly colored graphic, featuring the word ‘vegan’, the cafe announced that its menu will be ‘100% vegan’ from April 6.

The rest of the post’s caption reads, “Keep an eye on our feed and stories this week for new menu updates. We’ll also be reducing stock throughout the week in preparation for a few changes, starting with Staropramen – £4 a pint from tomorrow; also £10 pizza and drinks every night!”

‘Delighted’

Fans of the cafe seemed delighted with the news, with one taking to Instagram to comment: “The best place in [world]… delighted.

Another added: “This is AWESOME! We are so glad you took this step. Are you as excited as we are?!?”

And a third simply said, “Woooohooooo! That’s wonderful news!”

According to local media, the place is famous for its pizza, which it served with toppings such as mozzarella and fennel sausage.

Although he has these animal-based ingredients on the menu, he will continue to serve his much-loved pies, which are available every day Glad Cafe is open – Wednesday through Sunday.

The new menu, which says its mozzarella is now fully certified vegan, offers several options, including pizzas topped with margherita, artichoke and zucchini. Basil aioli and garlic mayo dips are also offered.

Coffee menu

The café’s brunch menu, which it serves on the weekends, also offers tasty options.

Among the dishes available are cannellini beans in a smoky tomato sauce on sourdough toast, served with vegan sausages.

Another dish, the “Big Breakfast Plate,” features sourdough toast, mushrooms, kale, beans, and plant-based sausages.
