LaniKai Lounge and Tiki Bar had their soft opening in February at 700 N. LBJ Drive, Ste. 113 San Marcos. The new tiki lounge bar primarily serves tiki drinks and other classic cocktails. The new establishment, although not a restaurant, also serves “small bites” of food with Hawaiian and Asian fusion. 512-214-8222

Planet 420, a San Antonio-based company, opened its ninth location Feb. 12 at 705 Aquarena Springs Drive, San Marcos. The new site offers a variety of products ranging from vape pens and cartridges to hookah and THC supplies, as well as a range of CBD products for both humans and animals.

Coming soon

Whitney Connell, owner of Hays County Outfitters, is expanding her business with a new location slated to open in Buda in early May. The new store will be located at Buda Mill & Grain Co., 304 S. Main St., Ste. 102, Bouda. Connell said the business has grown and they’re seeing a lot of customers from the Buda and Kyle areas, which prompted the new location. The store offers outdoor gear for camping, hiking, fishing and more. 512-749-1514.

Jax Burgers, Fries and Shakes, founded in Spring, Texas, will open a new location at 117 E. Hopkins St., San Marcos, in late March. The restaurant will offer beef burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs and more, as well as fries and shakes in a variety of flavors.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe will be opening a new location this spring at 4460 FM 1626, Ste. 100, Kyle. The Tropical Smoothie Cafe not only serves a variety of smoothies, such as the Super Veggie Avocolada, but it also offers an extensive menu with salads, wraps, sandwiches and more. The new site also has a drive-thru.

Moving house

Canine Moxy moved to 200 N. Austin St., Buda, from 131 Coachman Drive, San Marcos, in February. The company will continue to offer private and group training services for dogs and their owners. There are classes for a variety of needs, such as dog socialization, leash walking, and snake protection. Canine Moxy also offers online coaching for more flexibility. 512-776-9987.


Los Vaqueros Cafe and Grill, located at 804 W. Center St., Kyle, celebrated five years in business on February 14. The Tex-Mex restaurant is known for its lunch and dinner specialties, such as its chili relleno plate and enchilada plates. as well as its variety of cocktails. 512-262-0336.
