The Old Cinema, Thirsk: Twisted Automotive launches new cafe with £160,000 speedboat as centerpiece

Twisted Automotive has opened The Old Cinema cafe at its Thirsk headquarters, and it’s a must for fans of iconic vehicles. As well as its own £165,000 T300S sports boat, historic Land Rovers, a VW Beetle and motorcycles are also on display. There’s even a 1939 tractor inside the cafe.

The company was started by a self-proclaimed “Land Rover geek” Charles Fawcett, who grew up around cars while her father was in auto sales. The company started out by tuning and improving the performance of Land Rovers, but now focuses solely on the iconic Defenders. It launched its marine branch in 2021.

Mr Fawcett said: “The Old Cinema is a little slice of heaven if you like machines next to your caffeine. Our brand new T300S sports boat is certainly a must-see, but I encourage guests to discover other treasures as well. We have the most complete and latest stock of unused and modified classic Land Rover Defenders.

“You’ll also find incredible vintage vehicles, such as the classic latest edition of the VW Beetle with only a few hundred kilometers on the clock, a TT racing bike and a tractor from 1939. The Old Cinema is a place where people can call , grab a coffee, share stories and see our vehicles up close.

The Old Cinema building dates back to July 1914, when it opened as the Gaiety Cinema on Long Street near downtown Thirsk. It was badly damaged by fire in 1930 and was later acquired by a tire fitting company before Twisted bought it and refurbished it in 2020.

The cafe is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
