The Awards celebrate their 26th anniversary in 2022
The Sustainable Quality Awards (SQA) celebrate their 26th anniversary in 2022. The awards will be hosted by the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, the City of Santa Monica and Sustainable Works. They will recognize local businesses that “demonstrate excellence in helping Santa Monica continue to move toward a more sustainable future.”
The SQA Awards Ceremony will take place virtually on Wednesday, April 27 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.smsqa.com. Prepaid tickets are $25 for Chamber members and $35 for non-members.
The awards website states, “Since 1995, SQAs have honored 166 Santa Monica-area businesses with more than 215 awards for outstanding leadership in successfully integrating sustainable practices into their operations. The SQA Grands Prix are awarded to companies that excel in the areas of sustainable economic development, social responsibility and environmental management. Excellence Awards are given for outstanding achievement in one or two of the three categories.
Jim Christel, co-owner of Back on the Beach Cafe, said, “Applying for and winning a 2019 SQA Community Grand Prize has allowed us to review and make stronger commitments to our social, economic and environmental practices at our beach cafe. We feel better about ourselves and receive gratitude from many customers.
Christel added, “It is especially satisfying to see our young summer hires championing marine-degradable, plastic-free take-out packaging and keeping recyclables and food scraps from ending up in the trash.
Matt Stauffer, acting CEO of the Santa Monica Chamber, said. “We are once again proud to recognize these local businesses that go above and beyond in their sustainable practices. By honoring their efforts, we hope to inspire all businesses to integrate sustainability into their daily operations. »
The 2022 Sustainable Quality Awards recognize three Grand Prize winners and six Excellence Award winners. All of this year’s winners have participated in the City of Santa Monica’s Green Business program, administered by Sustainable Works, and five have earned the Santa Monica Green Business Certification (http://smgbc.org/directory/)
