Tokyo Pokemon Cafe menu features all new Halloween food and drinks

When chatting with other fans, it’s often not enough to say that you love Pokemon. Instead, to really start the debate on a passionate poke-parley, it’s best to specify which arc of the anime, or iteration of the video game, is really close to your heart.

And soon enough, it looks like we might just have to do the same with Tokyo’s permanent Pokemon Cafe. When the restaurant opened in March, the menu focused on stars of the show, such as Pikachu, Eevee, and Mimikyu. But with so many sources to draw from, the cafe’s chefs updated the edible list in mid-summer, adding dishes with tropical and Hawaiian touches in homage to the sunny setting of Pokémon Sun and Moon.

And now that we’ve flipped the calendar back to September, it’s time for another batch of new menu items, this time taking inspiration from Japan’s favorite fall holiday: Halloween.

The first newcomer takes the form of ghost-type Gastly, combining one of Japan’s favorite fried foods with buns reminiscent of the black burger craze in the spooky Gastly Mincemeat Cutlet Burger (1,706 yen). The color probably comes from the edible bamboo charcoal (in which case it will not affect the color of the eventual end product of the meal).

The Mont Blanc mashed chestnut dessert might not be something most American candy lovers are familiar with, but it’s a mainstay of Japanese coffee shops, especially in the fall when the nuts are around. season. But while you can order Mont Blanc all over Japan, it’s only at Pokemon Cafe that the cooks can make you a Tangela Holloween Mont Blanc (1,490 yen).

Moving on to the new drinks, there’s more of a Halloween theme with Golbat’s Bat-like Poison Poison Float Drink (918 yen). Don’t worry, however, it’s not really harmful to your health. It’s just that purple is both the color associated with poison attacks and statuses in Japanese anime / video games and also the color of the berries used to make this fruity float (ice cream has no Thematic link to Golbat’s flying abilities from Poison Fang attacks, and is just there because when was the last time someone didn’t want a scoop of ice cream?)

And finally, because Pikachu truly is the Pokemon of All Seasons, there’s a new Pikachu Halloween Chestnut Latte (918 yen), which features the franchise’s beloved mascot latte art and can be ordered hot or cold.

All of these menu items are available now and will be available through Halloween, October 31st. Remember that reservations are required to eat at Pokemon Cafe and can be made online. here.
