A KILWINNING takeaway left a national awards ceremony as champions.
The Viking Cafe won first prize in the ‘takeaway kebab of the year’ category at the Scottish Takeaway Awards 2022, winning for both the West Region and Scotland as a whole.
Based on Almswall Road, the restaurant has been a mainstay in the city since opening in 2014.
They’ve even started to branch out, opening a second store in Saltcoats just over a year ago.
Owner Wael Manasra said: “It’s a great achievement, after a lot of hard work, all the restrictions. The main thing is that all the staff are really happy with what they have achieved.
He said they didn’t learn of their win until the night of the awards show.
“We are so confident in the quality we provide,” he commented.
Quality was at the forefront of Wael’s mind when discussing price, something takeaways have become more than accustomed to over the years.
He continued, “We use premium ingredients, and we don’t use coloring or anything with electronic numbers, and we always try to use as fresh produce as possible.
“We always try to maintain the quality of the food and look for new ingredients, and we will always change the menu. Whether it’s something we think we need to change or something customers don’t like.
“That’s why we have feedback on Facebook, TripAdvisor and Google. We always take care of the customer, we see his opinion and we always try to improve our service.
“I just want my customers to be happy with the service we provide.”
Wael also wanted to thank everyone who made the award possible as he aims for more.
He said: “I would like to thank my staff and all of our Ayrshire customers. Without them we wouldn’t have a business and without my team who continue to deliver the right quality to customers.
“Everyone is happy with the service they receive, and I hope there will be more.”
