A new restaurant, Tower Cafe, will open Friday, August 5 at the street level of the Alliant Energy Tower in downtown Cedar Rapids.

The Tower Cafe, owned by longtime local restaurateurs Andy Deutmeyer and Vic Kuper, is located at 200 First St. SE, in the space formerly occupied by Fresh Deli & Grill before that restaurant closed on June 30.

The restaurant will offer a full breakfast menu, including breakfast scramble, breakfast quesadilla, breakfast pizza, breakfast sandwich, biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, sausages, cheddar hash browns, cookies, bagels and coffee.

For lunch, the Tower Cafe in the Alliant Energy Tower will offer a variety of items under the “Grill Station” name, including Crispy Chicken Wrap, Marinated Chicken Sandwich, Third Pound Burger, Veggie Burger, carne asada street tacos, quesadillas, turkey fondant, chicken strips and grilled cheese.

Deli options include a Mediterranean salad, Asian chicken salad, or a build-your-own salad option, as well as deli sandwiches such as Tuscan chicken, roast beef, or Italian sub, as well as a build-it-yourself subcomposition option.

Sides include homemade cheddar potatoes, fried cheese curds, sautéed summer squash with peppers, a side salad or fries.

A variety of fountains and bottled drinks are also available, as well as freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.

“Tower Cafe is synonymous with fresh, quality produce served with speed and courtesy,” reads the cafe’s Facebook page.

Orders can be placed online through the Tower Cafe website or in person. The website also indicates that catering services will be available soon.

Mr. Deutmeyer and Mr. Kuper also own Blend Business Dining, a Cedar Rapids caterer, and previously operated Blend Restaurant in downtown Cedar Rapids.

The Tower Cafe’s first hours of operation will be Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 2pm, with the restaurant closed on weekends.

The Tower Cafe launch at the Alliant Energy Tower was hosted by GLD Commercial. “GLD is delighted to have helped facilitate this transaction,” GLD Commercial said in a Facebook post.
